Tom Turner
Tom served in the US Army from 1968 to 1970 and then later received a BS degree in Business Administration from West Virginia State University in 1973. He currently resides with his wife at their home near Charleston, West Virginia.
Tom retired in January 1998, as a Special Agent with IRS Criminal Investigation Division following 29 years of government service. During his career he investigated various violations of the US tax laws and other criminal violations. Beginning in the second half of his career he became involved in computers and computer related evidence. He attended numerous government training courses which led to him becoming a Computer Investigative Specialist and later a Seized Computer and Evidence Recovery Specialist. He has initiated and participated in the execution of many search warrants, where computers were seized and later forensically examined.
He was also called upon as an instructor for several seized computer and evidence recovery training classes at FLETC, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, Georgia. In 1998 and 1999, Tom served as contract Instructor with US Secret Service, to teach Seized Computer training classes at FLETC for agents from various Federal agencies.
Tom has worked for the LaFear Group as an instructor for various investigative computer crime and evidence related topics. Since 2003, he has been working for the LaFear Group on Seized Computer Training and as an instructor on the use of the ILook forensic software product. In addition to his work as an ILook instructor, Tom has worked on creating the ILook Student Guide which is currently used in the ILook classes. He and the other instructors are always seeking out additional material and/or enhancements to keep the ILook classes informative, useful and up to date.
